You can tour Costa Rica by air. Costa Rica’s two new International airports serve the region’s 18 or more smaller airports reaching the coasts on the Pacific and Atlantic\Caribbean sides. With over a million visitors a year, it’s keeping Costa Rica busy but not crowded.
Juan Santamaria International airport is for those flying into San Jose. It is a beautiful 1000 meter high central valley airport with a picture perfect runway, surrounded by distant volcanoes. It may sound cliché, but it will very likely be gorgeous weather when you arrive.
San Jose is eternal spring and men and women dress up to go out like its summer. You get used to the bright sunshine and brisk pine scented mountain air quickly.
Liberia International airport is for those landing in the rural northern part of the country. It will be drier and hotter here, with air that invites you to shed clothing. Little boutiques offer beach wear and necessities to fully prepare the travelers passing through to an endless variety of adventures beyond.
You can tour the country in helicopter. Helicopter pads are standard at many resorts. You also have the traditional soccer field landing pads found in every pueblo. By the hour, day or longer, there are many air travel options. Three hours of helicopter travel, roundtrip from San Jose to los Sueños Yacht club and Marina at Playa Herradura, costs 800 to 1200 dollars for the trip with two to four passengers.
Two companies offer helicopter tours to see the spectacular coastline and stunning volcano views. Many special occasions are celebrated high over this unforgettable landscape. Business proposals, marriage proposals, anniversaries, celebrations, photography or just a reward for a job well done, you really need no other reason to do it other than that you can. You can tour the country by air in small planes, ultra lights, parafoils and ultra sleek auto-gyros as well.
Get your Costa Rica travel guide all underlined, stuff it in your suitcase, and come down for the holidays. Be a snow bird in Costa Rica. Those that do travel by air here, see the sights like only a bird can.
