It’s December 30, 2009, and our holiday season is well on its way!  Although tourism has been below average due to the global recession, the people of Dominical expect even more traffic. The new Costanera is near completion, which will open the door to travelers from northern costal cities like Quepos. Also, many ticos travel from San Isidro to partake in the much-anticipated New Years Festivities.

Traditionally, many come down to Dominical from San Isidro to spend some time on the beach and go to the always-popular New Years Eve Party at Roca Verde. Roca Verde has remained popular due to its disco, dance club style ambiance, and DJ playing all the hip-hop, pop, reggaeton, salsa, and electronic hits. The cover at the door is 3 mil Colones. Be sure to get there early, as this party is always packed! In addition to the regular Roca Verde party is a new event this year hosted by bar Maracatu. Maracatu will host an outdoor/full moon event in the soccer field on Friday January 1st. This party will have live music from Santos & Zurdo, The Flying Pancake, Wazulu, The Ill Dravidian, Kingo Lovers, Rasta Stevie, Marswell & Noah, and a DJ to mix things up in between shows. The party starts here at 2pm and continues until 2am. With plenty of room for a huge crowd, and a full moon, this party should not be missed!

In other Dominical news, The Dive and Surf shop will be running daily snorkel and dive tours to Cano Island and various hot spots. A new restaurant “Crispus” serving omelets, crêpes and sandwiches opened next to Land Assurance in the “Pueblo del Rio” Also new to “Pueblo del Rio” is Ruby’s homemade ice-cream shop. Land Assurance now has a daily updated surf report at LandAssurance.com, and efforts are being made to help our local lifeguards. The Dominical Lifeguard Foundation is raising money by selling calendars featuring local girls. The calendars can be found at many stores around town. Come support the local Life Guards as they are only privately funded!
