I know some people aren’t thrilled to hear this news because it seems that there is a Starbucks on every corner in the United States and in many other countries in the world.

The company that has the franchise rights to Central America will open its first cafés in El Salvador. It is expected that they will be expanding to the neighboring countries within a year or two. Personally, I like some of the products Starbucks offers but find them too expensive.

I am so dissapointed in anyone that considers Starbucks a good choice for coffee in Costa Rica. Starbucks is a very successful, and I don’t dispute that fact. What I worry about is that the next time I visit paradise, is that I will see a Starbucks around every turn. What will make it even worse is the possibility that the locals will end-up supporting this already fat pig. I’ve seen the way Starbucks comes into an area to saturate, and run-out the small business. The Mom and Pop, who for whatever reason, put their life savings on the line to live a dream. The sad truth is most can’t survive such a gauntlet. Lookout Costa Rica, while you’re enjoying a not so good cup of Starbuck’s version of coffee, your local coffee shops, with all their charm, will close there charming doors, and all will soon fade away.
