November 2009 gave us some great surf, some great weather and a slight increase in tourist traffic. We had a little more rain than usual to build our water tables back up and in fact the rains are following us into December, something we’ll be thankful for next March. Our head lifeguard, Andrew Webster took advantage of the end of the slow season to take care of some unfinished business back in the U.S. Thanks to the discipline and dedication of Ariel and Joshue we had competent beach coverage during Andrew’s absence. Now facing an uncertain high season, we must focus our energies to prepare for the potential big crowds and high stress demands of the upcoming dry months.
One thing Andrew accomplished during his stay in Southern California was to make contact with other pro lifeguards who expressed a desire to be of help in various ways. We can expect to see some of them making personal visits bringing professional expertise – offering help with manning the towers, training and provisioning. The past year has been perhaps the most difficult one in the history of the Dominical Lifeguards, due primarily to the poor economy both local and global. We literally ran out of operating funds many times over the course of 2009 and we can only hope 2010 will see an increase in tourism and business in general.
So once again we put out the call to our local community for help in making our beaches safe for one and all by donating time and money and ideas and whatever else we have between us to make our program stronger and more effective. Specifically we need help with collections and fund raising and the provisioning of equipment. We can use on-the-beach help assisting the guards on the towers and providing lodging for visiting professional lifeguards.
Please call Steve at Jazzy’s RiverHouse in Dominical at 2787-0310 or stop by or call Mike Witte at Hotel Roca Verde at 2787-0036 or again stop by anytime to make contributions or offers of help.
We still have plenty of calendars for sale – find them all over town – and remember for cash donations our bank account is with
Banco Citibank de Costa Rica
San Isidro de El General
account # 117-105-122-142823-1-5

Our ‘PayPal’ button is still working fine on our website

and as always checks can be dropped off at Roca Verde or Jazzy’s RiverHouse. Many thanks by the way for a particularly generous donation of $500 through ‘PayPal’ by Patricia Ingoglia.
