Private mail services for expats and the locals are booming in Costa Rica

I just read an article in one of Costa Rica’s largest newspapers about how much the country’s private mail services are growing. Areocasillas is the country’s largest private mail company and now has around 70,000 clients and counting. When I first opened an account about thirteen years ago they had fewer than 1000 clients.
One of the reasons for the huge growth is that you can now shop on-line for products from the United States. According to one of the employees of Aerocasillas, “Products from the U.S. are better quality and there a greater variety of items from which to choose.” Every time I go to the Aerocasillas branch in Heredia to pick up my mail, I see stacks of boxes piled up against the wall with products their clients have ordered from the U.S.
