New wellness resort launched

Dr. Jim Dudl, a 30-year La Jolla resident, and his son Bret G. Dudl have teamed up to create La Joya Perfecta – the perfect jewel – a health and wellness resort community in Costa Rica.

Jim Dudl manages wellness protocol for 600,000 diabetes patients for a national health insurer, and Bret Dudl owned an employee benefits and insurance business in San Diego, which he sold in 2007.

When Bret Dudl’s brother, Dr. Eric Dudl, died of lung cancer three years ago, the pair decided to focus on their dream of creating an affordable health-oriented paradise. They are developing a 162-acre, 140-unit community along the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, near the city of Cortes. A news release says they will have a wellness center and finished units in 2011, with completion in 2014.

They said they chose the name La Joya Perfecta because of their love of their hometown and they decided to use the Spanish spelling for “the jewel.” More information can be found on their website, www.costaricanwellness.com

They will discuss their plans for The Founder’s Club of La Joya Perfecta at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Rancho Santa Fe home of Dr. Steve Klein, who is a member of the La Joya Perfecta advisory board.
