Update 09/03/10 ~ thanks to Ms. Murphy-Wunderle for contacting us to clarify this article.
This message is to set the record straight concerning the following article. Jonathan Duarte began his piano study with me in 1999 when he was 8 years of age and completed all seven volumes of the Suzuki Piano Method in 5 years. It is incorrect to say he was self taught and began his formal training at age 14. I’m writing this in behalf of the Suzuki Piano Method, myself, and the many people who have brought it to my attention.
Sincerely,
Carol Murphy-Wunderle, B.M., M.A.
Pianist, Organist, Suzuki Piano Teacher

Jonathan Duarte is a sixteen year old Costa Rican pianist. Mostly a natural self-taught pianist he began formal music studies in 2007 at the Instituto Superior de Artes de Costa Rica. He then studied at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Costa Rica in 2008. He has performed in Carnegie Hall and at Stony Brook International Piano Festival in Steinway Hall.
He recently won second place in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and the American Protégé International Piano and strings competition held in the United States. Costa Rica’s musical talent is world class.

Jonathan Duarte plays Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) like a savant virtuoso returned from heaven. Keep your ears on him, he’s going high places.
Please also enjoy some scenery of the centenarian Teatro Nacional while you listen to a very brief cut of his music.
