Imagine gliding through the dense rainforest treetops while suspended only from a zip-line. Be on the look out for exotic birds and rare animals as you walk on a series of hanging bridges suspended through the jungle. Be amazed as you visit the worlds largest butterfly gardens.
This is Costa Rica, the jewel of Central America.
Costa Rica is located just north of Panama in Central America and is bordered by two beautiful coastlines. On the west is the mighty Pacific Ocean and on the east is the Caribbean Sea with its amazing powdery white beaches. In Costa Rica you will find exotic resorts and humble lodges. You will see pristine beaches on incredibly blue waters, lava flowing volcanoes, lush green vegetation and interesting animals.
Costa Rica is loaded with activities and adventures that will both thrill and relax you as you become acquainted with incredible wildlife and rainforests. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the striking Arenal Volcano right from your hotel. Take a trip into the famous Cloud Forest where you are constantly surrounded by clouds while viewing the enormous trees growing up to 100 feet tall. Shop for colorful handmade treasures at the local markets and sample the native cuisine.
You might even want to take a covered canoe ride on the gentle river running through the Cano Negro Nature Preserve. Look for sloths, butterflies, river otters, crocodiles and a toucan. When your day is finished relax in the mineral springs in the geothermal area near the Arenal Volcano or pamper yourself with a spa treatment.
Costa Rica is famous for its beautiful beaches and spectacular views. If you are a beach lover then stay on the famous Tamarindo Beach in the Guanacaste region at one of the fine resorts. Enjoy walking on the sandy beach or take a dip in the warm tropical waters. Enjoy the blazing sunsets over the Pacific as you plan your next day’s adventure. The Caribbean coast also has fabulous resorts.
Most flights fly into the capital city of San Jose where you can start your adventure exploring this intriguing country. There are also cruises that start, end or visit Costa Rica so you can get a taste of the country.
Make sure to take a shore excursion if you cruise. Costa Rica is in the tropics so expect warm, humid weather. Be prepared with an umbrella and a rain poncho for the frequent rain showers; also bring a jacket if you are touring the higher elevations.
You will need a passport to visit Costa Rica, make sure you have at least six months remaining on your passport from the date you return home.
Travel Tip: Many cruise prices are at their lowest point and are expected to rise in the coming months as the economy improves. You can lock in the best fares now by putting down a deposit that is refundable up until a certain number of days before your cruise – each cruise line has a different time frame.
Travel Deals: A huge Cruise Sale with most major cruise lines will be on Wednesday at the new Morris Murdock Travel Office 595 S. Bluff St., in conjunction with their open house. A 10-day Royal Caribbean Mexico Cruise departing Dec. 11 starts at $549 inside cabin or $799 balcony cabin; 7-day Princess Mexico Cruise departing Nov. 26 starts at $429 inside cabin or $649 balcony cabin.
