Costa Rica’s Laura Chinchilla sworn in as president

Laura Chinchilla, 51, has been sworn in as Costa Rican president, joining a growing list of female presidents in Latin America.
“I will work for a Costa Rica able to maintain moral leadership in the world thanks to defending peace, liberty and human rights,” Chinchilla said. Chinchilla promised to work for a better educated and healthier Costa Rica, making the nation’s fight against poverty her highest priority.
