The Dominicalito 5K and 10K race was such a huge success last year that these crazy runners and respected local figures are going to go to extraordinary lengths a second time to put it on for Dominical again. Mark your calendars Sunday March 14th 2010 at 7am sharp!

Debbie and Dave West created an amazing event last year and they plan to do it even better this time. This event raises much needed money for local organizations such as the local school and the essential Lifeguard program in Dominical. They plan to raise EVEN more money this year with an estimated 250+ turn out!

Dave is asking the community for used running shoes to be given to new runners that cannot afford them and has several running groups in North America collecting them to bring down soon. The main focus this year is to increase the recreational participation for those that have only watched in the past. Most of the Costa Rican races in the area attract the serious runners, an important element for a successful race, however, this event is for everyone to enjoy and bring the community together.

Dave will be offering free training clinics this year, starting in January so that everyone is given a chance to get to train for and complete a race. These free training runs will begin every Saturday morning starting 9th January at the entrance to Dominicalito beach (same as last year’s start line) across the highway from the Dominicalito soccer field at 6:30am, an early start to beat the heat. Every fitness level is encouraged to come – don’t worry we’ll be easy on you. What a great opportunity to have a free trainer to help you at whatever your level.

Over $1,000 in prize money will be distributed in the 10K Race and over $2,500 in gift certificates from generous local merchants will be awarded. The 5K winners will win a vacation package in Dominical for two. This could be your once in a lifetime chance to learn how to pace yourself, get fit, meet new friends, and improve your Spanish or English!

A few improvements will be incorporated in 2010 including the 10K Race starting precisely at 7am, a free fun run on the beach for the children at 7:05am and the 5K Fun Run / Walk start at 7:15am. This will ensure more shade along the route and lower temperatures. The prize ceremony will be right after the race. Early registration will be strongly encouraged so the race can start on time and we can beat the heat. The course will be similar to last year but with more shade for both 5K and 10K courses and with a fun new finish line yet to be announced.

So here they are again signing up for another year for the benefit of the local community. Thanks Debbie and Dave!
